The federal government says suspects arrested in connection with the killings in Yelewata, Benue State, will be arraigned on Monday.
In June 2025, suspected criminal herders attacked Yelewata in Guma LGA of Benue State, killing more than 100 people.
Days later, Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), announced the arrest of 28 suspects linked to the deadly attack.
In a statement on Sunday, Kamarudeen Ogundele, senior assistant to the president on communication and publicity in the office of the attorney-general of the federation, said the suspects will be arraigned before Joyce Abdul-Malik, a justice of the federal high court in Abuja.
The government said the arraignment followed a “painstaking investigation and collaboration” by relevant agencies.
The government assured Nigerians that “justice will be ensured in the matter.”
The office said the prosecution is aimed at sending “a strong signal to the enemies of the country, acting under any disguise.”
Ogundele said the administration of President Bola Tinubu remained committed to the protection of lives and property as enshrined in the constitution.
