Comrade Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has called on supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the party, popularly known as ‘the Obedient’ to ensure that their current huge and committed support is translated into a vote that would guarantee victory for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
Abure also reminded the supporters of the party that they should bear in mind that there is much work to be done to achieve the party’s desire of winning the next year’s election by moving from house to house to convince the voters on why they should elect Peter Obi as the next president of this country.
Abure stated this in his address to the Party’s support group Coordinators, LGAs, Wards, Units Chairmen and Secretaries at a dinner party in Benin, organized by the Chairman to appreciate them for the successful presidential rally in Edo State a fortnight ago.
While expressing gratitude to them and all Peter Obi supporters who turned out en masse for the Labour Party rally without inducement or any payment of any kind, Abure said, “the Edo Labour Party rally is the talk of the town despite the State Government’s refusal to allow them access to public space for the Presidential rally.”
He revealed that the Edo State government ensured that they blocked the use of Ogbe Stadium, Uniben Sports arena, UBTH Ground and a host of others but was unable to block the Baptist ground which was eventually used by the party to flag off its Presidential rally in Edo State.
The LP National Chairman who described the State Government’s action as undemocratic noted that it is appalling to observe that after benefiting from a system that allowed the people to support him in the last Governorship election, the same is now blocking the road that took him to paradise.
According to him, I congratulate you, supporters of the labour party and Peter Obi because you are the basis for Peter Obi’s popularity and I urge you to redouble your commitment to ensure that there is a rebirth of a New Nigeria that all of us are craving for and the need to achieve it cannot be overemphasized.
“With the National movement led by Peter Obi, it is glaring that an end of era of impunity, greedy and selfish politicians who knows about themselves alone is gradually coming to an end, while a new era of transparent and participatory leadership is coming to stay.”
He however called on the people not to relent in their efforts to ensure that come February 2023, Edo State will deliver 100% to Peter Obi which will be followed by the victory of all other candidates of the party in other elections.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the Party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi also thanked the various support groups for making the party proud during the Party Presidential rally last week in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
While observing that Labour Party supporters were the only party supporters in the history of Nigerian politics who willingly come out to show their support for a candidate without receiving gratification or being mobilized by any party leader, Ogbaloi said, “this is a testament to the fact that Nigerians have rejected the APC and the PDP due to the suffering in the land”.
Ogbaloi who also commended the support groups told them that the National Leadership of the party was indeed proud of their massive support, just as he charged them to continue to convince others who are yet to know that Peter Obi is the way out of the present predicament Nigeria is in today.
Also speaking during the dinner party, the representatives of the support groups, Barr Osas Okhilua
gave kudos to the National leadership of the labour party for being sensitive to the effort the support groups are putting in to ensure Edo State delivers Peter Obi.
He however called on other Candidates vying for Senatorial, House of Rep, and House of Assembly positions to work hard by moving from place to place to campaign for themselves and stop hiding under Peter Obi so as to ensure that they are elected along with the president.
Responding on behalf of the Contestants, Magdalene Ogheghe, vying for the House of Assembly in Esan Central said, she is the Face of Peter Obi in Esan Central, adding that she is working hard so that her party, LP will emerge victorious in the upcoming election.
The high point of the event was the presentation of artists’ work to Peter Obi and the National Chairman, Julius Abure as a symbol of victory in the forthcoming elections.
