•Results of 75 candidates withheld
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday released the results of the 2026 first series of the Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.
The computer-based examination took place in Nigeria between Wednesday, January 28, and Saturday, February 14, 2026, with a total of 10,480 candidates, including those with special needs, sitting the exam across 166 centres nationwide.
Out of the total number of candidates who sat the examination, 3,429, representing 32.72 per cent, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
This figure comprises 1,847 (53.86 per cent) males and 1,582 (46.14 per cent) females.
Meanwhile, the percentages of candidates who obtained similar results in this diet in 2024 and 2025 were 30.95 per cent and 26.96 per cent, respectively, indicating a marginal increase of 5.76 per cent in performance this year.
The Head of National Office of WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, announced the release of the results in a statement made available by the organisation’s spokesperson, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, on Friday.
Dangut stated that 8,418 candidates, representing 80.32 per cent, have had their results fully processed and released, while 2,062 candidates, representing 19.68 per cent, still have some of their subjects being processed due to errors traceable to them.
He noted that efforts are ongoing to rectify the errors and release the results of affected candidates once the process is completed.
The HNO also stated that the results of 75 candidates, representing 0.72 per cent of the total number of candidates who sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with reported cases of examination malpractice. He added that the cases are being investigated and that the reports will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council for determination.
According to him, the committee’s decisions will thereafter be communicated directly to the affected candidates.
He advised candidates to check their results by first visiting www.waecdirect.org to ascertain their status before proceeding to the Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org) to access the digital copies of their certificates, which have been released along with the results.
He stated: “Candidates will be required to apply for the printing of the hard copies of their certificates online through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman), with the address given as https://certrequest.waec.ng.”
He expressed gratitude to governments at all levels, security agencies, ministries of education, WAEC staff and examiners, as well as other individuals and groups who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination and marking of scripts, promising to sustain the integrity of the council’s examinations.
