US-bound plane with 355 passengers makes emergency landing in Japan after smoke detected

A Philippine Airlines plane bound for the US made an emergency landing in Japan on Thursday after smoke was detected.

 

The flight, which departed on Wednesday, was “diverted to Haneda Airport due to initial findings of smoke emitting from 1 of 2 air conditioning units,” local daily Philstar reported, citing the airline, reports Anadolu Agency.

 

The Boeing 777 aircraft was carrying 355 passengers and landed safely.

 

Passengers on the flight said the smoke inside the cabin started before they reached the Tokyo airport.

 

The passengers were evacuated from the plane.
