Uproar over Gov Makinde’s proposed renovation of Abuja Governor’s Lodge

The plan by the Oyo State Government to renovate the Abuja Governor’s Lodge with 1.5bn has started to generate an uproar across party lines and among residents in the state.

While some have described it as highly unnecessary at this period , others said the that it is not only irresponsible , lack of understanding of the genuine mechanics of governance , insensitivity to the people’s plight and their real needs.

Governor Seyi Makinde declared during the week the intention of his administration to embark on the facelift of the State Governor’s Lodge located in Abuja.

According to him , the sum of 1.5bn would be used to effect this and the move has started to evoke reactions across the State.

A member of the All Progressives Congress , APC , in Oyo State , anonymously said that the PDP Government in the state has lost touch with the people.

He also said that there are many sectors such  road infrastructure , agriculture , security , industry people’s welfare among others urgently crying for  attention.

He stated that majority of the people are yet to recover from the negative effects of the COVID 19 pandemic and they ought to be the top most priority of any serious administration.

Mr. Ramoni Abdulsalam is of the view that the government could use the money instead to help stabilize those who are the most vulnerable in the society who need to resuscitate their source of livelihood.

Mrs. Esther Bankole , a trader , said that Governor Makinde has really tried to bring back the past glory of the State through his many laudable transformation programmes and his destructors should leave him to his job.

She said: “After leaving the office whether he spends four or six years , is he going take it away with him?

“I see politics in these criticisms.”
