UNILAG debunks claims of additional increment in fees

The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has denied recent claims suggesting that the institution has imposed further unauthorized charges on top of its earlier fee increment.

The university had last month adjusted its tuition fees, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola explaining that while the tuition itself had remained unchanged for two decades, the escalating costs of education administration necessitated the adjustment.

In an official statement released on Friday and signed by the Head of the Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, UNILAG dismissed the rumours of fresh charges being added to the earlier increment as both “untrue and misleading.”

It said such was a misrepresentation of facts aimed at misinforming the public into believing that there has been another adjustment of fees.

The statement read: “For the avoidance of doubt, the University of Lagos Management hereby categorically states that this is not the case. Management is not unmindful of the prevailing economic realities, and as of the date of this disclaimer has not issued any other notice of increment apart from the “Adjusted Obligatory Fees for New and Returning Undergraduate Students” published in its information bulletin last month.

“The University Management understands the importance of accurate, verifiable and timely information, and views with utmost concern the attempt to spread false narratives that undermine its integrity.

“Members of the university community and general public, especially students and their families are, therefore, implored to rely on the official communication channels of the university for announcements, notices, or updates regarding fees, policies, or any other information relating to the university.

Please be assured of the university’s dedication to upholding its mandate and commitment to ensuring that students get the best learning experience.”
