Umahi condemns attacks on Ebonyians in Benue

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, on Wednesday, condemned the attacks on Ebonyi people living in Benue State, saying Nigerians shouid be treated as one wherever they are found.


Recall that armed suspected hersamen, on Sunday, invaded the Ebonyi/Benue border communities of Odoke, Obakotara and Nwaobasi in the Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, killing over 30 persons, including pregnant women and children.


Condemning the attacks during a visit to the victims at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital 2, Abakaliki, Umahi observed that the Benue State Government was treating the situation with levity.


The governor said the perpetrators showed exhibited satanism in the distardedly acts, adding it was wickedness for someone to rape a 2-year-old, while same time inflicting machete cuts on the mother.


Umahi also urged the Benue State Government to form its own security outfit in order to beef-up security in the area.


According to Umahi, “What I saw this afternoon is nothing but an act of wickedness and satanism. I do not know for any reason why people should be raping two-years children, inflicting machete cuts one-year old little children, killing their mothers, killing their fathers.Is it for what reason?.


“This is highly condemnable. This is wickedness and we should reject this behaviour.

“It is important that the people of Benue State form their own Ebubeagu to protect their own people.”
