US President Donald Trump has shared CCTV footage and photos linked to a shooting incident that happened during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

The video, released before Trump spoke to the press, reportedly shows the suspect rushing into the ballroom at the Washington Hilton. The person is seen moving past security screening points while armed officers quickly moved in to stop him.

Trump described the suspect as a “would-be assassin” and said the person was heavily armed when he forced his way through a key security area. Reports also quoted him saying the suspect “charged past a security checkpoint” carrying multiple weapons.

Images shared by the president showed a shirtless man lying face down in a hallway with his hands tied behind his back. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has now been arrested and is in custody.

Officials also said one security officer was shot during the incident but survived because of a bulletproof vest. The event, which took place on Saturday night, caused panic among guests and led to an emergency evacuation of the venue, while investigations continue to find out what led to the breach.
