A major fire incident broke out on Wednesday at the popular Jos Terminus Market in Plateau State destroying several shops and goods worth millions of naira.

The blaze, which spread through a significant portion of the bustling commercial hub, has left many traders devastated and counting their losses, reports Credible News.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident via his official X account, stating:

“Fire outbreak in Jos, the Plateau State capital, has destroyed some parts of the popular Jos commercial Terminus Market. Goods and properties worth millions of naira were burnt in the fire, which has since been brought under control, as of the time of filing this report.”

Their efforts helped bring the fire under control, although the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Eyewitnesses at the market described chaotic scenes, as shop owners scrambled to save what little they could. One trader said, “We watched helplessly as our investments went up in flames. The fire moved too fast for us to salvage anything.”

As of press time, the cause of the inferno remains unknown. However, investigations are expected to be launched by the state’s fire service and other relevant authorities to determine the source of the blaze and evaluate the extent of property loss.

The Plateau State Government is yet to issue an official statement, but there are growing calls for improved fire safety protocols and emergency response systems in public markets.
