Remembering Big Sam: A maestro of video editing whose legacy illuminates the industry

The curtain falls on the life of Samuel Ekandem, born in 1963 to the Ekandem family—a testament to resilience and passion. Surviving childbirth as the youngest of five, he embodied the values of hard work instilled by his mother.
Embarking on his career at NTA Benin City and later finding prosperity at Swift Studios in Lagos, Samuel’s journey was enriched under the guidance of his mentor, George Floyd. His mastery of video editing flourished, leaving an indelible mark on projects for advertising agencies, churches, and esteemed companies like Promasidor, GSK, and Dangote.
Beyond the editing suite, Samuel’s commitment to education led him to Lagos State University, where he crossed paths with Christy Essien Okon. Their union in 2004 resulted in a beautiful family of three children—a son and two daughters.
Tragically, on November 18, 2023, Samuel Ekandem bid farewell at the age of 60. Known for his devotion to the Lord, simplicity, and dedication to both family and craft, his legacy endures.
