The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, Bishop Ndibueze Onyagoziri Okorie, over allegations that he engaged in marathon sex with a 22-year-old female sickle cell patient in Abakaliki.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest. He said the bishop was in custody at the command headquarters while investigations into the matter were underway, reports Gwg.com.

“Yes, the Bishop is with us here at the police headquarters, Abakaliki. I don’t have any other information for now. The matter is still under investigation. On Wednesday, October 1, he was arrested by our men and brought in,” Ukandu told reporters.

The case took a dramatic turn after a viral video surfaced online, where the young woman narrated how she came to live with the cleric. According to her, both her family and the bishop agreed she should stay in the church so she could receive “divine healing” for her condition.

She alleged that the bishop later told her that a seven-day sexual encounter with him would miraculously change her genotype from SS to AA. Desperate to survive the disease, which had already claimed the lives of three of her siblings, she claimed she submitted to the cleric’s demand.

Her condition, however, worsened after the so-called “treatment.” The victim said she confided in her elder sister, who insisted she must return home since her health was deteriorating.

She further alleged that the bishop threatened to leak intimate pictures of their encounters if she attempted to leave him. Not long after she returned to her village, the nude photos surfaced on social media, sparking outrage and condemnation.

In his reaction, Bishop Onyagoziri denied the allegations. He claimed he never had sexual relations with the woman and alleged that his phone had been stolen. According to him, those who stole it manipulated the images with Artificial Intelligence to implicate him.

The police have yet to provide further details as the investigation continues.
