Police launch manhunt for Chief Morocco Oparugo, alleged kingpin of organ harvesting racket
The Nigeria Police Force has declared Chief Morocco Oparugo, a native of Umuhu community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, wanted in connection with alleged kidnapping and organ harvesting activities reportedly carried out along the Aba–Owerri Road corridor.
According to security sources, the suspect is believed to be linked to a criminal network that abducted unsuspecting victims and holds them in undisclosed locations before they are eventually killed.
Investigations revealed that Oparugo allegedly owns a hotel and a mortuary suspected to have been used as holding and operational facilities for the illicit activities.
Following intelligence-led operations by security operatives, the said hotel and mortuary were sealed as part of efforts to disrupt the network. Shortly after the operation, Chief Oparugo was reported to have gone into hiding, prompting the police to officially declare him wanted.
The police have intensified investigations aimed at uncovering the full scope of the alleged crimes, identifying accomplices, and dismantling the entire syndicate believed to be terrorising commuters and residents along the busy Aba–Owerri axis.
Members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The police also assured residents of their commitment to restoring safety and security in the area and bringing all those involved in the criminal enterprise to justice.
