It was a hectic time for Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), getting out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, on Saturday, as he was practically mobbed supporters, right from the tarmac to the point of exit.
Obi returned from Egypt, where he had travelled on Tuesday, last week to study the country’s education, power, planning and finance achievements, with videos of him actually interacting with stakeholders and experts in the North African country, doing just that.
The former Governor of Anambra State, posted via his verified Twitter account, @PeterObi, on Tuesday (June 14, 2022): “I just departed for Egypt on a three-day visit as part of my detailed study of comparable countries to Nigeria. In Egypt, I am expected to understudy, among others, the Egyptian Power Sector, Education, Planning and Finance Sectors.”
In the latest video posted on Saturday evening by a Twitter user, Comrade Phils, the Executive Editor, Report Afrique International, with the caption, “Leader of the new Nigeria, @Peterobi arrives Abuja Airport in Nigeria…” which Obi retweeted, the former Governor of Anambra State, was seen sandwiched in the midst of supporters as he arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja.
Obi, since throwing his hat into the ring for the nation’s number one job, has been garnering a lot of support, amid some telling political moves, including a confirmed negotiation with former Governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso on Saturday, of a joint effort to pursue the office together.
It is not known the fine details that are remaining to seal the deal, but Kwankwaso, confirmed the development on Saturday, while Doyin Okupe, who emerged Obi’s stand-in running mate, claimed on Friday that a grand coalition was being formed to ensure success at the polls.
Kwankwaso, told BBC Hausa Service on Saturday: “We are really talking to Peter Obi, or at least saying that the committee is working to look into the matter (and cooperate with him), and friends and family are coming to talk to us about it.”
He was a governor for 8 years and did not know the problem with our energy system and the solution. He could not point to anything specific he accompanists in Anambra as governor. And when he wants to learn, it is Egypt that he prefers going to. One week is not enough for you to learn enough to tackle Nigeria problems that has taken decades. When will you travel again?
