Ohanaeze Elections: Coalition of Igbo organizations to meet PG aspirants

As part of efforts to ensure that the right candidate emerges as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, the coalition of Igbo Organizations is set to meet with the five Aspirants for the office of the President General of Ohanaeze.

Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo is the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization that champions the welfare and interests of Nigerians of Igbo extraction all over the world.

According to set rules of the Ohaneze, the PG of the organization has been zoned to Imo State. This has enabled Imo to produce the five Aspirants for the office of the PG of Ohanaeze.

The five Aspirants jostling for the Ohaneze top job are Prof. Chidi Osuagwu, Dr. Chris Asoluka, Chief Goddy Uwazurike. Others are Dr Joe Nwaorgu and Prof. George Obiozor.

Ahead of the elections scheduled to hold next month, there have been political skirmishes as to who emerges with as cross section of Igbos pushing for a consensus candidate.

However, another section of Igbos championed by Ndi Igbo in diaspora kicked against such move for a consensus candidate.

The push to have a level playing field for all the candidates interested for the post PG, led to interactive session.

The interactive session with the five candidates scheduled to hold on Sunday will be conducted via Zoom.

The interactive session with the five Aspirants will offer a cross section of the participants the opportunity to assess the candidates and give an insight into their plans and programmes if elected as PG of Ohaneze.

It is not yet clear whether all the candidates will present themselves for the meeting but a close source to the meeting disclosed that the interactive  meeting will offer Igbos the opportunity to access the candidates.

Ahead, of the elections, moves to present Prof Obiozor as the consensus candidate was strongly resisted .

The resistance to his candidacy was not helped when a letter purportedly from Miyetti Allah, endorsing the candidacy of the former Nigerian Diplomat

Though the endorsement letter has been denied as fake, close watchers of Igbo affairs said it is a big dent on the image and personality of Prof Obiozor.

Analysts said the outcome of the interactive session will go a long way in determining how the PG of Ohaneze will emerge next month.
