Nwifuru inaugurates Ebonyi first digitized cab service initiative

The Ebonyi State Government has launched a digitized taxi system to enhance transportation in the state under a public/private partnership initiative.

 

The taxi system codenamed EBOCAB has 68 Renaut brand new pick-up vans and 30 Geely brand medium Sports Utility Vehicles for a take-off.

 

The transport system was officially inaugurated Tuesday by Governor Francis Nwifuru.

 

The inauguration took place at the initiative’s corporate headquarters, along the African Trans-Saharan Highway, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.

 

Speaking at the event, Governor Nwifuru said that the initiative, apart from providing safe and prompt intra-state and other transport services was aimed at impacting positively on the psyche of residents of the state and giving them enhanced self esteem.

 

The governor expressed his ever willingness to show interest in any suggestion having bearing towards addressing the needs of the people.

 

He explained that the Vehicles were bought by the state government and entrusted into the hands of EBOCAB management, adding that 95 percent of the monthly returns from the investment would go to the government while the management would retain 5 percent.

 

The Governor added that the SUVs were mainly meant to offer Car hire and other forms of transport services to and from the Ebonyi Airport, stressing that the state will soon launch its own commercial Aircrafts.

 

He charged the EBOCAB Management to show a high level of diligence in the administration of the vehicles in order to fully achieve its laudable objectives.

 

EBOCAB General Manager, Henry Okemini explained that anyone wishing to enjoy the services should down load the EBOCAB App from the online App markets: Google Play and Apple Stores for use in booking and other connections.

 

“All you need to do is to launch the App, locate the nearest Cab and book on line.

 

“Within few minutes, the Cab will stop right in front of you”, he added

 

He assured the Governor that the Management would justify the confidence reposed in them.

 

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Transport, Collins Igboke Ewa, described the initiative as another milestone in Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda in the State.

 

The Commissioner commended the Governor for earlier boosting and expanding the fleet of the State Transport Service, EBOTRANS, which has generally aided transportation for residents in the state.

 

Goodwill messages were received from some major Stakeholders at the event, including a former Senator who represented Ebonyi South at the Senate, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji; Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Moses Odunwa and the former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Greece, Franklin Ogbuewu, among others.

 

While Odunwa applauded the Governor for his innovative spirit in addressing the needs of the people, Ogbuoji stated: “Your Excellency, your vision for Ebonyi State is beyond what others see.

 

“You have demonstrated capacity which qualify you to be presented to govern Nigeria.”
