Nwifuru harps on alternative conflict resolution as Ebonyi begins 4-day orientation for political appointees

Public office holders have been charged to always employ the strategy of alternative conflict resolution in solving challenges of their offices.

 

The admonition was given by Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, while declaring open a four day orientation/ workshop for new political appointees and senior government functionaries in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.

 

The orientation workshop started Monday was initiated by the State government to equip the appointees with the requisite knowledge to deliver on the Charter of Needs manifesto of Nwifuru’s administration.

 

The event was presided by former Governor of the State, Chief Martin Elechi.

 

Addressing the participants, Governor Nwifuru charged them to defend the government, put in their best in service and promote mutual unity, peace, love and development of the State.

 

While emphasizing on alternative conflict resolution as a tool for modern administration, the Governor charged the officials to always employ more of the strategies of negotiation, mediation, conciliation and arbitration in handling issues concerning their offices.

 

He admonished them to be courteous with all persons seeking audience with them in their offices, give them hearing and advice without prejudice.

 

Nwifuru added: “We thought it wise that it is good to sit down with Government officials, interact and engage experienced professionals to train them on what the people expect from them in line with our people’s charter of needs.”

 

Governor Nwifuru further eulogized the former Governor, Martin Elechi, for all his sacrifices for the State, and appreciated him for accepting to preside over the training.

 

Elechi, in his remarks, commended the Governor for initiating the training, and urged him not to relent in pursuing goodness in the midst of fast decaying and eroding morality in politics and society.

 

He tasked the Commissioners on comportment, professionalism and integrity, describing them as ambassadors and representatives of government before the people.

 

He charged them to treat all persons equally including members of the opposition parties.

 

He further advised them to always remain who they are in all circumstances, and never do things that would tarnish their images.

 

“To be yourself means that you have faith and want to achieve relevance in what you are doing” Elechi emphasized.

 

In an opening remark, the Secretary to State Government, Professor Grace Umezurike, expressed gratitude to the Governor.

 

She enjoined participants to pay great attention to the resource persons so as to justify State government’s investment in the exercise.

“Note that after this training, you have no reason to fail,” Umezurike added.
