The National Universities Commission (NUC) has released the official results of its October/November 2025 comprehensive accreditation exercise at Maranatha University, Lekki, Lagos, granting full accreditation to five academic programmes while placing one on interim status.
The results, conveyed in a letter dated April 7, 2026, were issued under the authority of the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, in line with the provisions of the Education Act which mandates the Commission to regulate and accredit academic programmes in Nigerian universities.
The Commission confirmed that the fully accredited programmes include Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, and Economics.
NUC explained that the accreditation exercise was carried out in line with the provisions of the Education Act, which empowers the Commission to set minimum academic standards and evaluate programmes in Nigerian universities.
According to the Commission, the full accreditation status is valid for a period of five years, expiring in 2030.
In the mean time, Computer Engineering was granted interim accreditation, which will remain valid for two years pending a reassessment.
This comes as the Commission noted that some of these programmes had previously held interim status but have now met the required standards for full accreditation.
The Commission noted that programmes under interim status are required to address identified deficiencies to qualify for full accreditation.
The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, who conveyed the approval, emphasized the importance of maintaining academic standards across all programmes.
The Commission has however warned that programmes denied accreditation would face strict sanctions, including an immediate ban on student admissions and non-recognition of certificates issued after such bans. It however clarified that students already enrolled in affected programmes would not be impacted.
In the same vein, the Commission has stated that graduates from programmes with denied accreditation after admission bans may not be eligible for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
The NUC has also enjoined the management of Maranatha University to take necessary steps to address gaps identified during the accreditation process and sustain quality academic delivery.
The Vice Chancellor, Maranatha University, Professor Rufus Taiwo Akinyele who revealed this to the media, has expressed delight at this development. He noted that would further strengthen the educational grip, influence and impact of the faith – based institution.
