NNSS Port Harcourt stages spectacular 20th inter-house sports fiesta

The Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Port Harcourt delivered a thrilling display of athletic excellence and youthful discipline as it hosted its 20th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Held at the school’s sports complex in Port Harcourt, the milestone edition of the competition brought together students, staff, and distinguished guests in a colourful celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership — values deeply rooted in the training philosophy of the Nigerian Navy.

 

Students competed fiercely across an impressive lineup of sporting events including football, netball, volleyball, handball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, track and field contests, martial arts demonstrations, and traditional fun games. The ceremonial march past added military precision and pageantry to the spectacle.

Representing the Special Guest of Honour, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral CD Okechie, the Executive Officer of NNS Pathfinder, Captain M. Umar, commended the school for sustaining a culture of excellence through sports and character development. He described competitive sports as a strategic platform for instilling resilience, discipline, teamwork, and leadership — qualities critical to national development.

 

Beyond the sporting contests, the event spotlighted innovation as students unveiled household products developed under the school’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Programme. The initiative reflects NNSS Port Harcourt’s commitment to practical education, self-reliance, and preparing students for the demands of a dynamic economy.

After intense competition across categories, Saidu House clinched the Overall Champion title, emerging victorious in the landmark 20th edition of the annual sports fiesta.

 

The school reaffirmed its dedication to producing well-rounded students through a balanced integration of academics, athletics, and entrepreneurial training — shaping future leaders defined by discipline, creativity, and competitive spirit.
