Nigerians spent N3.33tn on calls, data in 2022 — NCC

It has been revealed that Nigerians and other telecommunication consumers within Nigeria spent N3.33tn on calls, data, SMS, and other telecom services in the year 202. This was made public by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

 

The disclosure was by NCC in its newly released ‘2022 Subscriber/Network Data Annual Report.’ The Commission stated that the Telecos made N3.33trillion revenue for year 2022, reports The PUNCH.

 

According to the Commission, the total number of active subscribers increased from 195,463,898 subscriptions in 2021 to 222,571,568 active voice subscriptions as of December 2022. That is a 13.86 per cent year-on-year increase.

 

Commenting on the increase in the Operator’s subscriber, the Commission attributed that to a number of reasons. These include subscriber loyalty, promos, seasonal effects, aggressive and consumer acquisition drive. Also mentioned are the competitive product offerings across all the networks.

 

The Commission noted that the growth in active subscriptions impacted positively on other derived telecom indicators. These include teledensity, Internet penetration as well as broadband penetration.

 

It pointed that Data usage also continued its surge in 2022. It increased by 46.77 per cent to 518,381.78TB as of the end of the year.

 

The NCC also revealed that, “There was an increase in the volume of data consumed at the year-end December 2022 when compared with the year-end December 2021.
