The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) on Thursday moved to enhance the performance of Nigerian businesses in the export market ,by holding an export branding and packaging workshop for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) based in Lagos.
Speaking during the event which held at Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) House, Ikeja, Lagos; branding expert, Mr. Muyiwa Kayode, advised the SME’s to have a vision, value, identity for their products as well as promote it in their overall interest, saying that this would enable their products to be easily identifiable by consumers.
According to him they should be simple and clear in the afore-mentioned areas, saying that this will easily distinguish their product and services in the export market and enable easy identification of their brands.
As he maintained for them to develop a top-notch packaging the information on the product must include brand name, product category and value proposition which should all be definable.

During his contribution, Mr. Paul Ajayi, told the businesses that their design and packaging should reflect the needs of the market, saying that packaging styles are ever changing and that we should keep in step with global best practise to remain competitive in the export market .
He urged them to ask themselves vital questions like ;what materials should i use?, what kind of colours will work well with the environment? What kind of language should i use in the labelling? what kind of design will work?
According to him to develop the right kind of packaging they need to know the shape, dimension, weight, material, market requirement or demands and environment being targeted, saying to succeed in the export market your packaging should be environmental friendly.
In his contribution, Mr. Victor Igumbor of Zenith Bank Plc said that the bank is a supporter of SME’s and export business and urged the business men and women to tap into the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Nigerian export expansion grant, maintaining that genuine exporters have a great chance of accessing the funds currently.
