NAPE set to host 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition on Nigeria’s energy future
The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) is gearing up for its 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE), which will take place from November 10-14, 2024, at Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos.
Widely recognized as the largest gathering of earth scientists and oil and gas stakeholders in sub-Saharan Africa, this year’s event is centered around the theme: ‘Resolving the Nigerian Energy Trilemma: Energy Security, Sustainable Growth, and Affordability.’
With the energy sector facing complex challenges globally, this year’s conference will bring together high-level industry professionals, government representatives, and academics to address critical issues facing Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
According to Mr. Austin Mgbemere, NAPE Publicity Secretary, “the rising need for transition towards more sustainable energy sources, energy poverty, and global geopolitics require strategic reappraisal of the energy industry in Nigeria.”
Key Highlights of the 42nd AICE:
– Opening Ceremony: Scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2024, at 9:00 am, with the keynote address by Roger Brown, CEO of Seplat Energy Plc.
– Pre-Conference Workshop: On October 30, 2024, focusing on “Leveraging Divestments and Local Content Capacity to Enhance Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry.” Osayande Igiehon, CEO of Heirs Energy Limited, will deliver the keynote address.
– Industry Awards Night: Set for Thursday, November 14, recognizing outstanding contributions to geosciences and oil and gas exploration in Nigeria.
As Nigeria contends with its energy transition goals, Mr. Mgbemere emphasized that “there are many factors that need to be considered and appropriately addressed in the nation’s shift to its sustainable energy future,” including balancing fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and a policy framework for sustainable energy security.
This year’s event also features technical sessions on emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, and data science, alongside critical discussions on the future of Nigeria’s energy landscape. The conference will explore how the nation can adapt its policies to meet sustainable growth goals while balancing energy affordability and security.
With more than 12,000 members, NAPE continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of geosciences and the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
