Middle East War: Trump announces 5-day ceasefire amid Iran ‘productive’ negotiations
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a five-day postponement of military strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure and power plants.
This diplomatic pause followed what Trump described as “very good and productive conversations” with Tehran aimed at achieving a “complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”
The development comes as the United States and Israel are actively engaged in military conflict with Iran, now in its fourth week.
The United States and Iran “have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump wrote, in all capitals, early Monday on his Truth Social platform.
“Based on the tenor and tone” of the talks, “witch (sic) will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings,” he added.
Trump’s latest declaration signalled a sharp U-turn from Friday, when he issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding that Iran fully open the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on its power plants.
