Lagos police arrest 32-year-old ex-convict for traffic robbery

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos Police Command has arrested an ex-convict for traffic robbery around the Ketu area of the state.

The 32-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Sunday, was apprehended last week Thursday when RRS officials working undercover spotted him while trying to dispossess a motorist of his mobile phone at Ojota under-bridge.

Sunday was arrested a few months ago by Alapere Police Division for stealing, for which he was sentenced to three-month jail term in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Parading the suspect, the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the arrest came as a result of strategic deployment of undercover policemen by the Commander of RRS, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Olayinka Egbeyemi, to comb areas with incidences of traffic robbery.

According to him, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has directed that the team leaves no stone unturned in the arrest of the remaining traffic robbers in the area.

Meanwhile, a swift action by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, yesterday, prevented a truck conveying 11,000 Litres diesel from causing disaster at Jakande 1st Gate, along Lekki -Epe Expressway, Lagos.

The truck marked: FKJ 703 XF, was heading inward Ajah when it caught fire on motion. However, crew from Lekki Phase l of the agency, ensured that only the cabin, where the fire started was affected, while other sections of the truck and the contents were saved.

There was no casualty as both the driver and his assistant escaped unhurt, while the cause could be traced to mechanical fault.

Also, a team of policemen from Ilasan Police Division and officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were on hand to bring the operation to a logical conclusion.
