IT has been a few days of muscle flexing between the Kaduna State government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), over the sacking of workers by the Governor Nasir el-Rufai administration.
The governor in its bid to “right-size” its workforce had sacked more than 500 workers prompting NLC led by its leader, Ayuba Wabba to embark on warning strike.
Following the strike action, el-Rufai had declared Ayuba and other union leaders wanted on Tuesday. While Ayuba dared el-Rufai to come and arrest him while leading workers on a peaceful strike. During the strike, some touts had attacked protesters.
However, on Wednesday, May 19, the NLC suspended its five-day warning strike in Kaduna State.
Wabba said the decision was to honour invitation of the federal government on Thursday, May 20, to mediate in the dispute between labour and the Kaduna State government.
