Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has opened up on how his daughter encouraged him to join forces with Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Kwankwaso disclosed this during an appearance on ARISE News on Monday while discussing the political mindset of young Nigerians and the increasing role of youths in determining the country’s electoral direction.
Reflecting on the 2023 elections, the former governor said younger Nigerians were more interested in competence and effective governance than ethnic or religious considerations.
He revealed that the generational shift in political thinking was evident even within his family.
“Even in the 2023 election, in my own house, my own daughter was telling me to go and work with Peter Obi,” he said.
Kwankwaso noted that many older politicians have failed to connect with young people despite their growing influence, especially through social media platforms.
According to him, the current generation of voters is demanding leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s problems rather than politicians who rely on ethnic or religious sentiments to gain support.
“You have leaders who hardly have any contact with the young men and women,” he stated.
“People are talking of religion. Some people are talking of ethnicity, but the younger people are looking for the right leadership for this country. And I think they are absolutely right,” Kwankwaso added.
