Kidnapped ABSU Professor, colleague regain freedom after ransom payment

A kidnapped Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) Professor and a colleague have regained their freedom after almost a week in the custody of their abductors.

Professor S. O. Eze of the Department of Industrial Chemistry and Mr. Nwokoro Innocent, retired Vice Principal of ABSU International Secondary School, were among six travellers abducted exactly a week ago by gunmen along the Uturu – Isuikwuato road.

“They were released this morning at Ihube, near ABSU,” a reliable source close to one of them told News Express yesterday. “Their families paid a ransom of a million naira for each of them,” the source disclosed.

One of the abducted ABSU lecturers, Chris Afulike of the Department of Mass Communication, earlier escaped from their abductors.

Security agencies say they are intensifying efforts to track down the kidnappers and rescue their remaining victims.
