Hunger Protest: Full list of states under curfew following recent violence 

The nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria began on August 1, 2024, with citizens rallying to voice their grievances. However, what started as a peaceful demonstration escalated into violence in some states, with reports of looting, property damage, and casualties.

 

To address the unrest, several northern governors have implemented curfews in their states. Here’s a list of the states that have declared curfews:

 

**Borno State**

 

The Borno State Police Command imposed a 24-hour curfew on Thursday due to escalating violence in Maiduguri’s Bulunkutu area. The curfew was enacted after police used teargas to disperse protesters who had become unruly.

 

Yobe State

 

Yobe State also announced a 24-hour curfew on Thursday, affecting Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru. The decision came after reports of hoodlums exploiting the protests to loot government properties.

 

Kano State

 

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State declared a 24-hour curfew on Thursday at a press conference. This measure was taken in response to the violence and disorder resulting from the hunger protests.

 

Nasarawa State

 

A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The curfew follows violent incidents, including looting and vandalism, that occurred during the #EndBadGovernance protests in the Mararraba area near the Federal Capital Territory.
