HORROR: Man jumps into Lagos Lagoon after abandoning SUV on Third Mainland Bridge
A man whose identity is still unknown was saved after reportedly jumping into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
The incident came to public attention after a video surfaced online. It was shared on Instagram by Isaac Fayose, who wrote, “Please, check on your family and friends. This just happened today. Who knows what went wrong,” reports Gwg.com.
In the footage, a witness explained what happened before the rescue. The man said he saw the victim stop his car on the bridge and leave his phones inside the vehicle before jumping into the water. He added that he quickly went to the office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority at Iyana-Iworo to alert officials and seek help.
Moments later, local fishermen stepped in and rescued the man from the lagoon. The video showed the victim sitting in a canoe while a fisherman paddled him safely back to land.
When contacted about the situation, a spokesperson for LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the agency was aware of the case but clarified who carried out the rescue. He said, “I was just told now that it happened yesterday. But it’s not LASTMA that rescued him. It’s the fishermen that rescued him.”
The incident has since sparked concern online, with many people calling for more attention to mental health and urging others to check on their loved ones.
