‘Holy Spirit led me to defect to APC’, – Fani-Kayode, as PDP wishes him well
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) Friday, said it wished former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, well in his future endeavours as a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fani-Kayode, whose defection to APC has been long expected owing to his prolonged romance with many chieftains of the ruling party was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari as the newest catch by the APC at the Presidential Villa on Thursday by Chairman of the APC’s Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni and Zamfara Governor Bello Matawale.
Fielding questions from State House Correspondents after the meeting with Buhari, Fani-Kayode said he decamped from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the sake of national unity.
According to him, “I’ve been responsible for many other defections into the ruling party.
“I was instrumental to the defection of three PDP Governor to APC, including Dave Umahi (Ebonyi); Ben Ayade (Cross River); and Bello Matawale (Zamfara).”
Fani-Kayode further stated that he has friends across party lines and was wooing Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) to join the ruling party.
In a swift reaction to Kani-kayode’s defection, Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP simply said: “The party wishes him the best in his future vocation.”
Earlier, State House Reporters had sighted Femi Fani-Kayode in Aso Villa as he walked into the President’s office with some chieftains of APC.
He was thereafter presented to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the APC, and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
On why he left PDP, a party he vowed to die defending, Fan-Kayode said that he was led by the Spirit of God in his decision and that he joined the APC to help foster the unity of the country.
According to him, “I’m against anything that would cause the disintegration of Nigeria.”
