Glimse of Rainbow, By Lanre Balogun

Ads
I peeked through the window
Caught a glimpse of the rainbow
Then flushed away my fears
Then the end of my tears
Found I a stream of joy
As though a little boy
Rolled out drums of war
The pitiless gaze set for brawl
Unknown gunmen
Angry herdsmen
Bandits turned out in soldiers dress
Set to steal, kill and destroy
Blessed were those without eyes
Saved from gory and nauseous sight
The slaughter of men
Aged and young with no drapes
Beheaded, Dismembered
Dropped in shallow graves
Shout from seen horror
Fear of unseen terror
Train attack,
Kidnap on the tarmac
Here, there and everywhere
Cry, shouts of raping spree
Just the shadow of the Messiah
I cringed in eerie silence
Rejoice evermore said the voice
In thundering silence
Then I peeked through the window
Caught I then a glimpse of the rainbow
