Fresh twist as IGP orders probe into alleged police role in activist Dadiyata’s disappearance
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a fresh investigation into allegations linking some police officers to the 2019 disappearance of social media activist and lecturer Abubakar Idris Dadiyata.
According to reports, the probe followed petitions submitted by lawyer and activist Abba Hikima, citing claims allegedly made by a former aide to ex-Bello Matawalle. The allegations named CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, who were accused of involvement in Dadiyata’s disappearance and alleged killing.
The Police Monitoring Unit has reportedly been directed to handle the investigation, while police authorities said the matter would be thoroughly examined.
Dadiyata was abducted from his residence in Barnawa, Kaduna State, in August 2019, and his whereabouts have remained unknown since then, sparking years of public concern and advocacy campaigns demanding justice.
Former Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also welcomed the renewed probe, describing it as “long overdue” and calling for justice and compensation for Dadiyata’s family if the allegations are confirmed.
