A member of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Kwara State, has shared a chilling account of what he and other worshippers endured while in the custody of bandits who abducted them during a church programme last week.
The victim, who was among the 38 worshippers released on Sunday, recalled that the moment they were taken into the forest, it became clear that the kidnappers had firm control of the entire area, reports Gwg.com.
“It was unimaginable,” he said while narrating his experience. “When we got there, we realised it was a completely dominated area. They told us by themselves, ‘We are bandits,’ and made it very clear that nobody could escape. With what we saw, truly, nobody could have escaped. They know every route inside those bushes in Kwara and even surrounding cities.”
He described the forest as a territory under total surveillance, adding that the abductors boasted about their mastery of the terrain and their ability to detect any attempted movement. The captives, he explained, were kept under close watch at all times, leaving them frightened and unsure of what would happen next.
The 38 worshippers were abducted on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, during an evening programme at CAC Oke Isegun, Eruku, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Their release on Sunday came amid growing national concern over the surge in kidnapping cases across the country.
