Food stuff, cattle dealers give FG 21days ultimatum to tackle insecurity or food supply would be halted nationwide

The Amalgamated Union of Food Stuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AFUCDN) National President, Muhammed Tahir, has threatened to cut the supply of foodstuff nationwide if insecurity is not addressed by the Federal Government.

He warned that a drastic drop in food supply would have an adverse effect on inflation and household incomes and stressed the ardent need  for the government to improve security across the country and check the incessant harassment of their members by security agents

Tahir, who disclosed this at the end of an emergency meeting of the union in Abuja, said since Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State intervened  three months ago in a move that led to the suspension of their six days old industrial action that  nothing has been done to address the concerns raised by their union.

The union had in March this year, gone on strike following alleged illegal roadblocks and extortion of her members and unnecessary attacks of her members across Nigeria.

According to Tahir the union also resolved to throw their weight behind the onion union that also commenced cutting off supply to the southern parts of the country.

He disclosed that though AFUCDN is not currently on strike at the moment, but hinted that they may no longer guarantee industrial harmony after three weeks, should the government fail to meet the union demands.

“Nevertheless, as stakeholders we sounded their views were of the opinion that the federal government is not in the position to meet the demands of AFUCDN which are Germaine from all intent and purposes, as the Mohammadu Buhari administration appears to have lost control.

“Even the President’s own state of Katsina is not safe, recall that his own community head at a time was kidnapped by bandits,” Tahir said.
