Certainly the negligence or indulgence of a parent or guardian,a teacher, or government has very grave consequences for the morality of a nation. In reference to his personal experience as a child,Lamartine said, ” The future state of the child depends in great measure upon the home in which he is born. His soul is nourished and grows above all, by the impressions which are there left upon his memory. My father gave me the example of sincerity even to scrupulousness, my mother (showed) goodness rising to devotion the most heroic,l drank deep from my mother’s mind, l read through her eyes,l felt through her impressions,lived through her life. Samuel Morley also gave this testimony about his mother, “I am much what my mother has made me.” Thomas Nelson too declared, “Give our boys better mothers and they will give those mothers better sons.” By divine planning and organization,a child in most cases is much closer to the mother than to anybody else at infancy. In the first several months of his life no human being came-in between him and his mother.In normal birth circumstances, l repeat, normal, that is all other things being equal, the child has to lay on his mother’s bosom to feed and keep himself warm at least for the first few hours after birth, and in most cases for a couple of months or more. The mother sings lullaby to the baby and often speaks to him as if he were an adult audience.
