The peace and tranquility of any nation perches on a tripod of the family, the teachers and the government, but it does so today most precariously. Without determined and earnest co-operation of the three legs, transformation of the nation remains a mirage. Failure of one leg in the tripod causes imbalance, resulting in rickety existence of the Nation. The same imbalance results if the three legs are stunted or malingnant in growth.
In other words, there can be no balance -no peace – in the nation if there is no equilibrium in the responsibilities of parents, teachers and government.It is a three-legged race: The parent starts the race (home training); he passes on the baton to the middle man-the teacher (school training), who later on turns over the adolescent to government for public display, service, servitude or menace , depending on previous training or lack of.Recent attempts at bringing about some form of moral awareness and transformation in the society have not succeeded not because the managers of the crusades were not men and women of impeccable character and integrity. They, in the first place, were chosen to lead the government of their nations on the basis of their own individual moral record as a beacon of hope for the change. Government all over the world today failed because moral goodness was not made a focus in governance. Governors did not use the principle of moral goodness as the master key and sine-qua-non in their governance. They were too much preoccupied with the economic and material aspect of the nation at the expence of her soul-searching and soul-sculpture.As they governed at various levels, from the Local to the State to the Central or Federal Government, the rulers did not have any master-plan for moral goodness. There were no clear-cut goals and objectives that placed emphasis on moral goodness for the nation at large,as was done by past heroes of national development and transformation in countries like Japan, Malaysia, the U.S, Britain and some other countries in Europe and Asia. Even in the aforementioned countries, succeeding leaders have so far failed to build on the remarkable efforts of the pioneer -governors in areas of moral goodness.
So, part of the result is what we are witnessing all over the world today – moral decadence, even among the touch-bearers in the nations’ government. The airwaves and the newspapers are almost suffocated with bad news which stiffles the traces of good news in the world today. The full result is yet to appear! Many nations are still busy with national or international politics even as the “tsunamis” of violence, evil, sorrow, suffering, fear, doubts, and discouragement looms larger than ever witnessed in the annals of world history apart from the flood at the time of Noah. “You ain’t seen nothing yet!” as the Americans would say.
