The Eledumare Studio’s free art and vocational school has kicked-off with an introductory session which aimed at sensitizing school children in Agege area of Lagos on the need to up their artistic skills via the free training.
The free art school which held at its Agege Centre and Diary Farm Primary School, Agage saw the students receive rudimentary artistic education that touched on photography, graphics, art, videography etc.
The various speakers at the event, namely Mrs. Banke Williams, Assistant Director, Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Mrs Ogunyomi Motunrayo, Education Secretary local Government Authority, Segun Ajayi MD Eledumare Studio and Mr Yemi Ibikunle of Maltic Shoes all harped on the need for vocational education in Nigeria.
Mrs Motunrayo maintained that it is probably because of the lack of vocational schools that is responsible for the high number of “boys and yahoo boys” on our streets.
She advised the youths to tap into their talents which can be developed at cheap vocational schools instead living a lazy and irresponsible life, saying that their are things their parents can not do for them as human beings but which they can do for themselves.
Mrs Williams on her part said that the ministry and some private organisations are aware of the efforts of Eledumare Studio to support Nigerian youths to develop their inherent talents and called on the youths to avail the opportunity to better their lives.
She stressed that Lagos State government is ever ready to support enlightenment and education as an educated population is what the State wants as it would help her to achieve much in the 21st century in which we live.
Mr Ajayi in his contribution said every human being has a talent or gift from God and that the mistake we have been making as a nation is that we promote formal education,while we down grade vocational education, stressing that our employment situation should have been better if we also recognize vocational education.
He said his Academy is tailored to empower Nigerian youths as well as other students with artistic gifts and skills so that they will have a more balanced education.
He said the Agege Centre is just the starting point as it has plans of expanding its reach state-wide in no distant time,saying the academy is an idea which time is now.
