Ebonyi ICT University matriculates 187 students, Gov Nwifuru grants five-year scholarships

The Ebonyi State Information Communication, Science and Technology University has matriculated 187 pioneer students, with Governor Francis Nwifuru announcing a five-year full scholarship award for the students.
The matriculation ceremony took place on Saturday, March 14, at the university’s permanent site in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area.
Addressing the students, Governor Nwifuru warned that his administration would maintain zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, and other social vices.
He emphasized that the university aims to produce job creators, not job seekers, stressing that self-reliance-driven education has become inevitable with the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
The governor urged the students to be good ambassadors of the university and assured them of the scholarship, even if they don’t benefit from the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
He also disclosed that the construction of the university’s facilities is nearing completion, providing a conducive teaching and learning environment.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Ernest Egba highlighted the university’s research progress, including medical consumables production and female hygiene products.
He noted that the institution focuses on technological development, with 20 academic programmes across five faculties: Engineering and Technology, Computing, Communication, Management and Social Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, and Architecture and Environmental Sciences.
The ceremony was well-received, with attendees describing it as a fulfillment of Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs mantra.
