Deputy Gov tasks NIS on security of Benue land borders against criminal migrants

The Benue State Deputy Governor, Mr. Benson Abounu, has challenged the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), to intensify surveillance on border communities to check activities of criminal migrants into the state.

Abounu who threw the challenge while playing host to the Controller of Immigration, Benue State Command, Mr. Festus Amajoyi on Thursday in Makurdi, noted that implementation of stiffer measures by the service will help prevent illegal influx of persons and animals into the state.

While acknowledging the synergy between the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security outfits in tackling criminality in the state, he said the State Action Committee on Covid-19 would work together with security agents to contain migrants in order to control the spread of the virus in the state.

He assured the NIS of government’s continuous support to enable it deliver on its statutory mandate in protecting people of the state against criminals from other areas.

Earlier, the State Controller of Immigration, Mr. Amajoyi, said the reason for the visit was to establish relationship with the office of the deputy governor, and commended government for placing priority to security of lives and property with measures taken to address migration of people from the Republic of Cameroon and other communities.

He expressed commitment of the command to face the challenge of ensuring criminality in the state was reduced to it barest minimum.
