The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has expressed concern over delayed or withheld security responses to attacks in predominantly Christian communities, warning that it gives the impression of collusion.

In a statement on Tuesday, the CBCN condemned repeated attacks in the Northern and Middle Belt regions, which have caused heavy casualties and widespread destruction. The bishops said the situation has fueled claims of “Christian genocide,” while also acknowledging that Muslims and other innocent citizens have suffered in the violence.

The CBCN urged the government to investigate the security lapses and restore public trust in the protection of all communities.
