Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has been arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and he is currently in the custody of the commission in Abuja.

A top source in the commission also confided in Theideal that the former Kwara State governor is being held over allegations of theft and money laundering.

The source said, “ I can confirm to you that the former Senate President is with us in Abuja”.

When asked for details over Saraki’s  arrest, the source declined to give further details on the grounds of the sensitive nature of the matter.

TheIdeal reports that between 2015 and 2019, Saraki spent a considerable time facing allegations of corruption and false declaration of assets.

But the former Senate President was later acquitted by the Supreme Court in June 2018.

Theideal further gathered that in Saraki’s new case with the EFCC, he  is to answer questions over alleged theft and laundering of public funds through network of cronies and proxy companies.
