Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has condemned the worsening economic hardship and insecurity in the country, urging Nigerians to reject what he described as “selfish and insensitive governance” in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Saturday at the unveiling and commissioning of the new state secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Basin, Ilorin, the former Osun State governor openly called for the rejection of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of betraying the people’s trust.
Aregbesola lamented that the current administration had failed to address the suffering of Nigerians, as hunger, unemployment, and insecurity continue to escalate nationwide.
“Before, with ₦10,000, you could start a small business confidently, but today even ₦200,000 is not enough. There is hunger everywhere, insecurity, and joblessness. The people in governance today are self-centred and think only about themselves,” he said.
The former minister’s comments mark one of his most direct criticisms of the APC since leaving office, signalling a deepening rift between him and the leadership of the ruling party.
Aregbesola’s appearance at an ADC event also sparked political speculation about his future plans, with observers suggesting it may be the prelude to a realignment ahead of the 2027 polls.
