Omoyele Sowore, the convener of RevolutionNow, has ignited controversy by calling for the abolition of the Nigerian Senate, branding it a “coven of thieves” and a “retirement home for liars and corrupt former governors.”
Sowore’s comments come in the wake of allegations that Senators received N500 million each from the 2024 budget.
According to SaharaReporters, the revelation was made by Senator Agom Jarigbe representing Cross River North during a session on the alleged padding of the 2024 budget.
Earlier, Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi had alleged that N3.7 trillion was padded into the budget.
Taking to social media platform X, Sowore expressed his discontent, stating, “it’s time we seriously move to abolish the bi-cameral legislative system, especially the Senate, which has always been a coven of thieves.”
He further advocated for a unicameral legislative arm with no more than 100 part-time lawmakers.
Sowore’s remarks have reignited discussions about the effectiveness and integrity of Nigeria’s legislative structure.
