Abia Guber: Apostle Dr Johnson-Ogbuneke deplores govt attitude to doctors, promises to give them a new lease of life 

The gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abia State, Apostle Dr. Ngozika Gladys Johnson Ogbuneke, has promised to enter into social contract with medical doctors if she emerges Governor, emphasizing that this will ensure that they give back to the government and enhance regular payment of their salaries.


Apostle Dr. Johnson-Ogbuneke, who spoke on Rhema FM on Saturday, over the recent protest by doctors in Abia State, criticised the stand of Abia State Government in respect to the “No work, No pay policy’” for Medical Doctors in the State, stating that it is the civic right of workers to voice their disaffection when treated poorly.


She said, “All over the country and the world in general, it is a written and an unwritten law empowering workers to seek peaceful ways to resolve their differences with Government. It is just appalling to owe Teachers, Pensioners, Health workers among others.”


Apostle Johnson Ogbuneke hinted that if she emerges the next Governor, she will ensure that within 18 months in office, all owed salaries and arrears will be cleared.


She said the social contract with Doctors will allow them devote more time to work and ensure that they do so with passion and utmost dedication.


The SDP governorship flagbearer said instead of the 30 days annual leave, she will reach a contract which will see them take only seven days and use the 23 days to cover up for lapses, stressing that the government has no right to owe health worker considering the sacredness of their job.


On the deplorable state of Aba as the commercial hub of Abia State, she decried the level of decay in Aba, recalling that growing up in Aba as a young girl, Aba was not this deplorable as is the case today.


She said if she emerges, she will clean up Aba, revealing that Aba is always waterlogged due to poor drainage system, maintaining that the drainages need to be properly redesigned with enclosed drainage system just as she stated that both markets and traders in Aba need to be upgraded to international standard.


Apostle Dr. Ngozika Gladys Johnson Ogbuneke, also stated her plans to up moribund industries in the State which is tenable in States like Akwa Ibom, while also stating that she will ensure inter-city and intra-state movement.


She said she will be a caring Governor, will be accessible, set-up enabling environment for the citizens, noting that she will also ensure that recreational centers, track roads and track fields for sporting activities will be opened, among other infrastructural facilities which she will bring on board
