A CSO, Whisper to Humanity reinforces partnership with Ebonyi govt on transformative education

A youth-based non-governmental organisation, Whisper to Humanity, has strengthened its partnership with Ebonyi State government towards ensuring the continued safety of teachers and students as well as improve teaching and learning across schools in the state.

 

The organisation, through the instrumentality of its project: ‘Empowering Educators and Learners for Transformative Education,’ has reached an estimate of over 226 teachers and 18,000 students of secondary schools with both advocacy and capacity on ways of improving the impact of learning rooted in play.

 

The organisation had earlier trained teachers, pupils and students in the state on playful learning approaches to make education more exciting and attractive to the younger generation.

 

It has also set up and equipped play stations in some primary and secondary schools across the three senatorial zones of the state with follow up supervision.

 

Following the recent cabinet reshuffle by Governor Francis Nwifuru, founder and Executive Director of the Organisation, Maryjacobs Okwuosa and her team were in Ebonyi state recently to familiarize their project with the new Education Commissioner, Donatus Illang.

 

Intimating the Commissioner with the activities of the Organisation, Okwuosa explained: “We have been walking around getting state actors, civil society organisations, teachers, the ministries and the media to build a formidable partnership for a sustainable education system where every child is excited to go to school every day.

 

“Our transformative education and playful learning are currently happening across five states in Nigeria, and this has been on since September 2024.

 

“Today, we have submitted the needs assessment for Ebonyi State, seeing the new commissioner open more conversations to reinstate the already existing partnership with his predecessor.

 

“Having more conversations on how to sustain the work that we have done, including the play stations that we have set up in sixteen schools in the state and the training for teachers to ensure that it is sustained beyond our project duration.

 

The Executive Director stressed the organisation’s quest for an educational system that is accessible, safe and high quality to ensure that children from even the rural communities in Nigeria are able to stand the taste of education with their counterparts across the world.

 

She, however, expressed hope that their visit to the state commissioner for education would yield actions that are visible, whereby students and teachers in the schools are able to benefit from the initiative.

 

Our correspondent reports that the project is working with Ignite Consortium and other partners across eight countries.

 

Welcoming the Whisper team, the State Education commissioner expressed happiness with the organisation over the impact it has made in education in the state with proof of activities, describing it as a welcome development.

 

He assured of his ministry’s openness to work with the organisation to further ensure the development of schools in the state as well as the protection of teachers and students.

 

Earlier on, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Ngozi Otozi, had identified vital issues concerning the safety of teachers and students, such as the building of a perimeter fence, among others.

 

She informed the group that the ministry was currently working on schools enhancement measures and applauded Whisper to Humanity for bringing up issues of better education in the state.
