51 killed, dozens injured in coordinated night attack on Gowon’s Plateau community

A coordinated attack on the Zike Kimakpa community in the Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, has left at least 51 people dead and many others severely injured.

 

The late Sunday night assault shattered the peace of the village, leaving residents in mourning and shock.

 

According to local accounts, armed assailants descended upon the community under the cover of darkness, firing indiscriminately and setting homes ablaze in a deliberate act of violence.

Eyewitnesses reported to Leadership that at least 30 houses were torched, displacing numerous families and destroying their properties. “They came in shooting, and everywhere was chaos,” a local resident stated.

 

Danjuma Dickson Auta, the Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), confirmed the devastating incident in a telephone interview. He reported that over 45 bodies had been recovered, and the death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue operations continue.

 

“It was clearly a coordinated and premeditated attack,” Auta asserted, highlighting the scale and intensity of the violence inflicted upon the community.
