2026 Lagos City Marathon: LASG announces road closures, traffic diversions

The Lagos State Government has rolled out an extensive traffic diversion plan in preparation for the 2026 Lagos City Marathon, set to take place on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

 

Authorities say several major roads will be closed for as long as 12 hours to ensure the smooth conduct of the event, reports Vanguard.

 

Speaking on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, outlined the logistics for the race, which will feature both 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre categories running at the same time along designated routes.

 

According to Osiyemi, the 42-kilometre race will commence at Ahmadu Bello Way (by MRS Gas Station) and continue along the full stretch of the Coastal Road to the finishing point.

 

Meanwhile, runners participating in the 10-kilometre event will set off from Durosimi Etti in Lekki Phase 1, moving through Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bishop Oluwole, and Akin Adesola, before concluding at Sanusi Fafunwa.

 

The Commissioner stated that all connecting roads, junctions, and intersections along the marathon routes will be shut from 12:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 

However, he noted that the roads will be reopened intermittently as participants progress along the course.

 

To manage the expected impact on movement, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside other security agencies, will be stationed across affected areas to regulate traffic flow and restrict unauthorised access to race corridors.

 

Osiyemi urged residents to make adequate travel arrangements ahead of the event by planning their journeys in advance, exploring alternative routes, and considering other means of transportation.

 

He appealed for patience and cooperation, emphasising that the temporary traffic measures are necessary for the successful staging of the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2026.
