The Delta State Government has ordered the immediate stoppage of Valentine’s Day parties in all public and private secondary schools across the State.
The Ministry of Secondary Education gave the directive through an official circular dated February 11, 2026.
In the notice signed by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Nze Ashibogwu, and sent to Chief Inspectors of Education, field offices of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and heads of all public and private secondary schools, the ministry said it had noticed Valentine parties were being held in many secondary schools across the State.
Both students and teachers were said to be involved in the celebrations. The government stated that such activities have not helped to improve academic performance in schools.
The government, in the circular titled ‘Abolition of Valentine Parties in Schools’, explained that students should spend their time and energy on learning and other useful school activities.
The government warned school authorities to avoid programmes that might distract students or affect their studies.
The circular also stated that the government is focused on improving education standards in the state.
It said that any activity that could harm moral values or affect students’ academic growth would not be allowed in schools.
As a result, all heads of public and private secondary schools have been told to stop organizing or allowing Valentine parties on school grounds anywhere in the State.
