The Christian world mourns as renowned American worship leader Ron Kenoly dies at 81

American Christian worship leader, singer, and songwriter Ron Kenoly has passed away at the age of 81.

 

The legendary gospel artist’s death has been confirmed by several artists via their social media pages.

 

Joining many others, Nigerian gospel singer and minister Nathaniel Bassey expressed his appreciation for Kenoly, thanking him for inspiring generations of artists.

 

Writing on his Instagram page, he said: “Dr Ron Kenoly crosses to the yonder side. Thank you for inspiring generations of psalmists like me.

 

“I grew up on these songs. And today, others are growing up on ours. Thank you, sir.”

Born on 6 December 1944 in Coffeyville, Kansas, US, Kenoly began his music career following his service in the United States Air Force.

 

He was originally a member of a group called The Mellow Fellows, but family issues led him to leave the group.

 

His breakthrough came in 1992 when Lift Him Up became the fastest-selling worship album.

 

He was also the talent behind hit songs such as ‘Majesty,’ ‘Righteousness, Peace & Joy’, ‘Anointing,’ ‘All Honour,’ and ‘Sing Out,’ among others.
