The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has revealed that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were the primary causes of the road crash involving world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to the FRSC, the incident occurred on December 29, 2025, around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State.
A black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua collided with a stationary commercial truck. Five adult males were involved in the crash. Tragically, two people died, one sustained injuries, and two others escaped unharmed.
Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and suffered only minor injuries. The injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division has been informed for further investigation and documentation.
Preliminary findings from the Ogun Sector Command indicate that the Lexus Jeep, believed to be traveling above the speed limit, lost control while attempting to overtake and collided with the properly parked truck.
The FRSC emphasized that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking remain leading causes of fatal accidents on Nigerian highways. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, speaking on behalf of the FRSC management, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Joshua and the injured passenger a swift recovery.
