The camp of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has fired back at allegations that he offered to “keep” the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Bola Tinubu to have a free run in the 2027 presidential election.
The allegation was made by Seyi Makinde, who claimed he was present at a private meeting where Wike allegedly made the offer to Tinubu. The claim, reported by several media outlets including GWG.ng, has since sparked intense controversy within the opposition party.
However, a source close to Wike dismissed Makinde’s claim as “political projection,” accusing the Oyo State governor of a long history of party disloyalty driven purely by personal ambition.
According to the source, Makinde defected from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2007 to the ANPP after failing to secure the party’s senatorial ticket. In 2015, he reportedly left the PDP again for the SDP after missing out on the governorship ticket.
The source further claimed that Makinde would have dumped the PDP ahead of the 2019 elections if he had not eventually clinched the party’s governorship ticket, and alleged that his involvement with the PDP G5 governors in 2023 was purely to secure his own re-election.

The Wike camp also accused Makinde of working against Ademola Adeleke during the 2022 Osun governorship election to ensure that he remained the only PDP governor in the South-West.
Describing Makinde as “Ibadan Gomina General,” the source alleged that the governor has never been loyal to any individual or political party, but only to his personal political interests.
To buttress the claim, the source urged sceptics to consult several Oyo political figures allegedly sidelined by Makinde, including Hon. Mulikat Adeola, Hon. Muraina, former deputy governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, Olopoeyan, Auxiliary, and Senator Hosea Agboola (Alleluyah), among others.
The rebuttal further deepens the widening gap within the PDP as rival camps trade accusations ahead of the 2027 political permutations.
